The
Worldwide Guide to Movie Locations: The Essential Travel Guide
Book to Film Locations
The
author
Tony Reeves is a lifelong movie fan, and the original Worldwide
Guide to Movie Locations was the culmination of
eight years research watching films, videos and, later,
DVDs, as well as trawling through endless magazines, studio
presspacks and film ephemera, and travelling the globe to
seek out those favourite movie backdrops.
There's a terrific buzz finding yourself in one of the
classic screen locations: Luke Skywalker's home from Star
Wars (the Sidi Driss Hotel in Matmata, Tunisia);
Amity Island, from Jaws
(Martha's Vineyard is Amity island it's a conservation
area and in 30 years it hasn't changed a bit) or the 'Hadleyville'
church where Gary Cooper
appeals for help in High
Noon (in a tiny village up in northern California).
And then there are the smaller, more personal pleasures: lunch
in theBagdad Cafe,
or struggling to resist breaking into a tango by the vegetable
stall in the supermarket from Doug Liman'sGo.
Tops would have to be Bodega Bay, fromThe
Birds. I hadn't planned to stay there but I was making
up time on the northern California
trip. By chance, it was also Oscar night and the kindly woman
who ran the hotel gave me an upgrade to a room with a view.
A fridge full of Bud, the Oscars live on TV and a balcony
overlooking Bodega Bay are about as close to movie heaven
as I'm likely to get.
