Hiding behind the coy title is David Mamet’s play Sexual
Perversity in Chicago, and Chicago
does form the backdrop for this mostly spot-on look
at the tug between friendships and relationships.
If you want to check out the singles bar where Lowe
and Belushi
dispense their own brand of charm and sensitivity, it’s
based on, and called, Mother’s,

Street, toward the south of Chicago’s Gold Coast district.

If you prefer the look of the boisterous beer garden
beneath the rumble of the Howard elevated railway, where
Lowe and Moore bump into each other after a couple of
one-night stands, it’s Kelly’s
Pub, 949 West Webster Avenue at North Sheffield
Avenue (tel: 773.281.0656). Close to DePaul University,
it’s obviously a student bar.
