An
uninspiring account of the doomed marriage between Henry
VIII (Richard
Burton) and Anne Boleyn (Genevieve
Bujold), filmed on sets at Shepperton
Studios, where the major interiors were built
(they were later reused for Hammerís Countess
Dracula).
Real locations include Anne Boleynís actual childhood
home of Hever
Castle, between Sevenoaks and East Grinstead,
three miles south of Edenbridge in Kent. The double-moated house is set in 40 acres
of garden.
The rare, authentic Tudor garden belongs to Penshurst
Place, one of the finest 14th century manor
houses in England, in Penshurst
village a couple of miles east of Hever Castle, and now home of the Viscount de líIsle,
former Governor General of Australia.
The hunting scenes were filmed in southwest Londonís
Richmond Park.
