Pasoliniís
heavily Freudian filming of the Greek myth is bookended
by the birth of a child in the 1930s and his maturity
in the 1960s.
For the ancient Greek towns of ëCorinthí and ëThebeís,
Pasolini
used the beautiful fortified kasbahs and the spectacular
deserts around Ouarzazate,
southern Morocco.
The updated prologue and epilogue filmed in Pasoliniís
hometown of Bologna,
Italy.
The present-day Oedipus becomes a blind beggar playing
his flute on the steps of San
Petronio, one of the worldís largest churches,
on the Piazza Maggiore,
while his boy, Angelo, chases pigeons in front of the
Palazzo Communale.
