In
the early Seventies, Alan
J Pakula made a trilogy of sublime urban paranoia
thrillers. Klute
was the first, followed by The
Parallax View and All
The President's Men.
This moody suspenser has detective John Klute (Donald
Sutherland) investigating the disappearance of a
scientist and getting involved with neurotic hooker
Bree Daniel (Jane
Fonda).
It was filmed on the streets of New York,
and at the now defunct Filmways Studios, 246 East 127th
Street at 2nd Avenue in East Harlem. Itís now a giant
Foodways supermarket.
Breeís apartment stood on a stretch of West
43rd Street which has, sadly (for movie fans, if not the occupants), been redeveloped.
