Run! Run for the hills! It's the end of society as we know it!

Well, somehow, we survived, and Brando became the iconic poster-boy for a generation in the original bad-boy biker movie.

The big disappointment, if you want to slip on your leather jacket and get snapped mooching moodily about on Main Street, is that the movie was shot on the backlot at Columbiaís San Fernando Valley ranch.

Second best is probably the town where the events that inspired the movie actually happened, which is Hollister, east of Salinas, northern California.

Hollister is on I-156, less than ten miles east of San Juan Bautista, site of the old mission from Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo.
