“As Miss Golightly was saying before she was most rudely interrupted...”
A film of the book would have been nice, but this cleaned-up
jaunt through the edited highlights is jolly enough
to be going on with, and Audrey
Hepburn is, as always, a treat (although Marilyn
Monroe was author Truman Capote's choice for the
lead.
Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn)
is the flighty social butterfly with a past, who enjoys
nothing more than an alfresco breakfast gazing in the
window of swish jewellery store, Tiffany & Co, 727 Fifth
Avenue at 57th Street.

The green and white candy-striped awning of Golightlyís
apartment building, where Mickey
Rooney donned rubber eyelids as an an unlikely Japanese
landlord, may have gone, but youíll still recognise
the townhouse at 169 East 71st
Street, on the East Side, New
York.
And, just for the record, this is a private home. The interiors were, as is usually the case, filmed on studio sets in Hollywood. Ever wonder why those shoebox-sized Manhattan apartments look so spacious on screen?
