With its towering palms and distinctive green and yellow wrought ironwork, the Santa Anita has been a favourite with Hollywood punters since 1934. It’s where James Mason fell off the wagon in the 1954 A Star is Born, and cropped up again recently in Michael Mann’s Public Enemies.
