visit the film locations

Visit the Trona Pinnacles, Trona, approximately 20 miles east of Ridgecrest. Access to the site is from a BLM dirt road (RM143) that leaves SR 178, about 7.7 miles east of the intersection of SR 178 and the Trona-Red Mountain Road. The five-mile long dirt road from SR 178 to the Pinnacles is usually accessible to 2-wheel drive vehicles, however, the road may be closed during the winter months after a heavy rain.

Trivia

Check out locations for the 1968 Planet of the Apes or Tim Burton’s 2001 Planet Of The Apes

Planet of the Apes location: Trona Pinnacles, near Ridgecrest, California

Planet of the Apes location: ‘Calima’ – birthpplace of ape civilisation: Trona Pinnacles, near Ridgecrest, California

For Tim Burton's slightly disappointing 2001 're-imagining', of the 1968 classic, ‘Calima’, where the ape civilisation is born – and where Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) discovers the ruins of his spaceship – is the spectacular Trona Pinnacles near Ridgecrest, central California. You may recognise the striking rock formation as the planet ‘Shakari’, where Captain Kirk meets ‘God’ in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
