The Rocky steps: Philadelphia Museum of Art, Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia

The end of the run: Philadelphia Museum of Art, Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia

Rocky

FILM LOCATIONS: PENNSYLVANIA; LOS ANGELES

Watching Rocky again, it's surprising how little boxing there is in the movie. For most of its running time this low key study of stunted lives plays like Paddy Chayevsky's Marty with a fairytale ending. But Best Picture? In the year of Taxi Driver, Network and All The President's Men? What were they thinking of? Chayevsky got the writing Oscar, though, for Network's script.

Set, of course, in Philadelphia (though some of the movie was actually filmed in LA) where you can find one of those legendary film locations you want to visit even if you weren't knocked out by the movie. Who can resist running up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art at the end of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, northwest of downtown. There's a great view back to the city centre, which now has a few more highrise buildings than in 1976.
