And now, I want his company, and they say, 'What's half a loaf? You're well shot of him'. And I say 'I know that, but I miss him, that's all', and they say 'He never made you happy'. And I say 'But I am happyapart from missing him. .

Both Dr Daniel Hirsh (Peter Finch) and Alex Greville (Glenda Jackson) are besotted with artist Bob Elkin (Murray Head) in this immaculately written, acted and directed slice of London life in the seventies.

But the icing on the cake comes in the collection of priceless cameos and caricatures surrounding the central relationships. Alex and Bob take the precocious kids for a scamper around
Greenwich Park, SE10, which is quite a walk from the family house. The passageway lined with gravestones, is alongside St Alphege, in Greenwich.

One of the kids vandalising cars here is Daniel Day-Lewis, in his first screen appearance.

Although the appalling Hodson family is quintessentially ‘Hampstead’, the house is actually in south London, about 12 miles from Greenwich, on the north side of Wandsworth Common,
5 Spencer Park, SW18.

Sunday Bloody Sunday location: the surgery of Dr Hirsh: Pembroke Square, Earl's Court, London

Dr Hirsh
s surgery, where he and Bob raised a few eyebrows back in 1971 with a passionate screen kiss, is 38 Pembroke Square, W8, just off Earl’s Court Road. The scene took the film crew by surprise, too. Until that point, they’d been led to believe the couple were uncle and nephew.
