LAX: the only way to arrive

I once arrived in LA by car, after driving down the coast from San Francisco. It just didn't feel right. The way to arrive is by plane, at LAX, experiencing that thrilling, lung-grabbing moment as the doors slide open and the cool, conditioned air of the arrival lounge is blasted away by the first wave of hot, diesel-flavoured air. Welcome to LA.

A morning or lunchtime flight from the UK arrives in time for the evening rush hour, when the traffic is not too frantic. I wouldn't think about visiting LA without wheels. There's no point, not even with the new Metro system. And Speed has put you off buses, right? Driving is half the LA experience.
