Softcore vamping in a late-period Hammer filming of J Sheridan Le Fanu’s lesbian vampire novel Carmilla. The palatial home of von Spielsdorf (Peter Cushing), where Marcilla (Ingrid Pitt) first stays, is Moor Park Mansion, now the clubhouse of Moor Park Golf Club, Anson Walk, on the A404, northwest of Northwood in Hertfordshire, which was seen also in the colourful 1947 Gainsborough Pictures period romance Jassy.
The rather more modest mansion of Roger Morton (George Cole) is Wall Hall, until recently the University of Hertfordshire now private housing, north of Aldenham, between Watford and Radlett – and seen as the psychiatric clinic in Hammer’s Bette Davis shocker The Nanny.
