Ex-Python star Terry Jones directs, and stars in, this amiable adaptation of the classic children’s story.
‘Toad Hall’ is the red-brick Tudor Kentwell Hall, Long Melford in Suffolk.
Kentwell Hall had previously appeared in a very different kind of film, Michael Reeves’ brilliantly nasty Witchfinder General, with Vincent Price as witch-hunter Matthew Hopkins.
The railway scenes were filmed on the Bluebell Railway – a five mile stretch of track between Horsted Keynes and Sheffield Park, northeast of Haywards Heath in East Sussex.
