The smart white mansion of Harold Cooper (Kevin Kline), where a bunch of erstwhile Sixties students gathers for the wake and to rake over old ashes, is Tidalholm, 1 Laurens Street, in Beaufort on the coast of South Carolina.
A private house, not open to the public, Tidalholm was built in 1853 for cotton merchant Edgar Fripp, and is one of many mansions in the area reflecting the wealth made by Sea Island cotton.
Kevin Costner, who’s suicide brings the group together, ended up being cut from the movie.
