Walter Matthau, in a rare straight role, is a small time bank robber finding himself with a stash of mob money in this tight little thriller from the dependable Don Siegel.
The town of ‘Tres Cruces’ is Genoa, the first permanent town in Nevada, settled by Colonel John Reese in 1851. It’s a few miles south of Carson City, close to the California border.
The ‘Tres Cruces Western Fidelity Bank’ is Genoa Courthouse Museum, 2304 Main Street.
BTW, Genoa also became the town of 'Silver Creek' for Rob Reiner's 1990 film of Stephen King's Misery.
