Writer Clive Barker’s debut feature film launched the Cenobites, perverse pleasure-seekers from Hell, particularly the seemingly-indestructible Pinhead (Doug Bradley).
In the film, the house where Julia Cotton (Clare Higgins) disposes of casual pick-ups to revive Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman) with fresh blood, is known as ‘55 Lodovico Street’.
The real house, a private home, has been spruced up a treat, is 187 Dollis Hill Lane, London NW2, high on the hill, the rear overlooking Cricklewood. It really was was dilapidated at the time and, needing little in the way of dressing, was used for most of the Lodovico Street interiors.
Other interiors, including the 'exotic' bookend scenes, were filmed at the now-gone Production Village Studio, 100 Cricklewood Lane, which was housed in a former Handley Page aircraft factor.
