Odd mix of cutesy kidsy comedy with violent bookends.
The mall in the opening scene is Main Place Mall, 2800 North Main Street, Santa Ana, in Los Angeles.
Flying from Los Angeles to Portland, Oregon, Det John Kimble (Arnold Schwarzenegger) drives along the scenic Route 26, Sunset Highway, through Tillamook and Clatsop State Forests, to Astoria, the ‘San Francisco of the Northwest’, a Victorian gingerbread town at the mouth of the Columbia River (already familiar from The Goonies and Short Circuit).
‘Astoria Elementary School’, where he takes a teaching post under headmistress Miss Schlowski (Linda Hunt), is Astor Elementary School, 3550 Franklin Avenue, with its glorious views over the Columbia River and the spectacular toll bridge to Washington State.
