Ken Loach’s brand of naturalism is brought to Jim Allen’s story of an unemployed van driver trying to raise the loot for his daughter’s confirmation dress. It was filmed on the Langley Estate, which writer Allen had helped to build, north of Middleton between Manchester and Rochdale in the north of England.
Bob (Bruce Jones) attempts to sell bits of rustled sheep in the, since demolished, Sporting Falcon pub, which stood on Bowness Road, at the corner of Threlkeld Road.
