Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) investigates a murder at a ‘French chateau’ in this sequel to The Pink Panther. France? No. The mansion is solidly Home Counties in the UK.
It’s Luton Hoo, now Luton Hoo, Hotel, Golf and Spa, a couple of miles south of Luton, and about 30 miles north of London, off the M1 in Bedfordshire.
A classic Robert Adam house dating from 1767, until a few years ago, Luton Hoo was open to the public and housed not only a huge collection of works by fabled Russian jeweller Carl Fabergé, but also memorabilia of the Romanovs – the Russian royal family executed in 1917.
Luton Hoo is a veteran of many films, including Eyes Wide Shut, Never Say Never Again, Quills and Four Weddings and a Funeral.
