Colourful melodrama with gypsy servant Jassy Woodroffe (Margaret Lockwood), who is gifted with second sight, arrested for the murder of her aristocratic husband (Basil Sydney) and the priceless Esma Cannon swooning in the witness box. Sadly, it turned out to be the last of the Gainsborough costume pictures.

Jassy filming location: Aldbury, Hertfordshire
Jassy location: the local village: Aldbury, Hertfordshire

The local village is picture-perfect Aldbury, off the A41, six miles northwest of Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, seen again in Robert Aldrich's 1967 The Dirty Dozen, the 1969 thriller Crossplot, with Roger Moore, and 2004's Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.

The estate's grand house, 'Moderlaine', is Moor Park House, which now serves as the clubhouse of Moor Park Golf Club, Anson Walk in Batchworth Heath on the A404 north of Northwood, also in Hertfordshire. This Palladian mansion also became the home of von Spielsdorf (Peter Cushing) in Hammer's 1970 The Vampire Lovers.
